I have loved creating things with my hands ever since I was young because I felt it was a fun way to show off my creativity and I am making something I put the time and effort in to make. I learned how to sew from my mom and I would buy sewing crafts at Michaels to create my own designs but I would often get impatient and give up. I feel artistic expression can be created through sewing, painting, making collages, etc. I have always wanted to make my own quilt for as long as I can remember but my past of being impatient has been holding me back. I want to create something beautiful and meaningful to my creativity and I want to prove myself wrong that my impatience will make me quit.
Being impatient and not making the time has been my excuse for far too long. I want to get the old sewing kit out and get to work making my own quilt. I feel this project is the perfect opportunity for me to make time and make the quilt I have so longed to make.
The picture above is an example of the size quilt I want to create and my goal for this project is to try to work on the quilt every night after I get home from my school site. I feel this will be a way to calm down from the day and I will be able to work on it. I will share my progress of my quilt through blog posts and I will describe my progress through pictures and links to helpful YouTube tutorial videos and sewing designs/styles through Pinterest and Twitter. I'll have my mom watch me to see how I am doing and I will blog how my quilt is coming along.
My final product at the end of the project will be to proudly display my quilt with lots of pictures on the blog post and perhaps bring it to class for everyone to see. I want to learn about myself as a artist exploring new ways of artistic expression and making a quilt will help me learn new sewing techniques, patterns and I will be proud of what I created. I want to learn to overcome my feelings of impatience in exchange for creating a wonderful quilt that can be enjoyed by the fact I had overcome my obstacle. Getting around to making a quilt will be checked off my list of things to do in life.
