After I watched this video, I still felt I am a person who is a visitor of the internet and technology. It was interesting about the point he made about residents and visitors having the same technology but it depends how much it is being used and the purpose of the technology usage. I say I am a visitor of technology because I do not go on the internet too much, I only have a Facebook and to my friends' annoyance, I have no Twitter, SnapChat, Instagram, Pinterest, and whatever other social media sites I do not know. My phone is located in my purse most of the time throughout the day unless I am using it to check or send necessary emails.
I've never thought too much on what type of technology user I am until seeing this video. I like the point he made about both visitor and residents having the same technology skill it's just a matter of how much they use or what they use it for. I would imagine I am a resident because I go on social media a lot to talk to friends and go around on news articles. However, I am a visitor in the sense I go on social media and if not on social media I only use technology for a specific purpose. I would like to find interesting blogs to follow however to find new teaching ideas!
Before I viewed this video I thought of myself as being very tech savvy and having an online presence, but now I’m started to second guess that. Starting the class and creating the accounts to get an online presence is making me start to think that I need to develop it. Dr. White talks about how most people just check in and take from the internet when they need it. I use youtube all the time to figure out how to make things, cook things and build things. The last thing that I looked up was how to build a bike surfboard rack. After I used the information I didn’t stick around and discuss like Dr. White suggest when you are a resident online. Personally I feel that being a resident online is really a time suck.
