In chapter 5, Wagner focuses on the fact that the student population is receiving most of their learning from the Internet and not from the classroom. Sitting in a disengaging environment for long periods of time lead to behavioral issues, boredom and the feeling of punishment. The students' abilities to connect on social media, internet and cell phones have caused them to become easily disengaged when the teacher is lecturing for 90% of class and are not connecting to their students. I think brief lectures can be helpful when giving instructions, making announcements, leading an activity or an overview of what the class will cover in new chapter or unit. The students should be doing 90% of teaching and learning while the teacher should only talk 10% during each lesson. The students' fast paced mindset have caused the "sitting in class for an hour" system to become extinct and ineffective in student learning and we teachers need to keep up with their pace.
