Michael Wesch describes the need for critical thinking, I could not agree more! Today our students are going to face many different challenges outside of school, I want to prepare them for that. As a teacher I feel it is my job to get my students ready for some of the challenges that they will face outside of school. Wesch describes the major impact that media can have in my students lives. Without the ability to think critically, my students would be disadvantaged and more susceptible to the ads they are viewing on a daily basis. Wesch describes critical thinking as setting up a filter between the “blast of media”. Wesch also suggest that critical thinking is not enough for our students but that our students need to be able to harness the power of media and connectedness of our current society, however I disagree. I feel that if students have the ability to think critically and problem solve, then mastering the uses of media will follow.
